Winter Sports, a Jackson Hole Specialty

Humans have been engaging in winter sports since before 5000 BC. Archeological evidence of early versions of skis has been found in snowbound lands like Norway. But skiing as a recreational activity has been around since the 1800s, the first such club said to have formed in 1861. Although many forms of skiing exist, they are commonly categorized under Alpine or Nordic skies.

Jackson Hole real estate took an uphill turn in value when the first ski resorts started to open in Teton Pass County in the 1930s. Ice skating and mountaineering are also very popular. Sled dog tours, snowmobile rentals and other alternative activities are also popular with tourists and residents alike.
